NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet says case numbers “will increase” in the coming weeks, as the state moves to significantly ease COVID-19 restrictions which have been in place for several months.
“Our number one responsibility is to keep our people safe; I think we’ve done that successfully over the last 18 months but there’s no doubt as we open up case numbers will increase,” Mr Perrottet told Sky News host Sharri Markson.
“Our case numbers have been coming down, and that’s allowed us to extend and bring forward some of those releasing of restrictions.
“There’s no doubt there will be higher case numbers as we move through this, and increased hospitalisations.
“We’ve got to learn to live alongside the virus, every state is going to have its challenges.”
