Social commentator Prue MacSween says former prime minister Tony Abbott seemed to say what the “politicians are too scared to do” amid his visit to Taiwan.

“I mean, he’s a warrior, he’s not afraid of a fight, and he’s probably saying whatever Australia’s thinking but the politicians are too scared to do, whether it be because of diplomatic concerns or national security concerns,” Ms MacSween told Sky News host Chris Smith.

“But for too long we have allowed China to bully us, to … scold us, just tell us that we’re an inferior little flea on the world’s stage.

“And it’s nice to see that Abbott is doing that, and I think obviously Morrison and some of the people in the parliament aren’t going to be too happy about it.

“But good on him for having a go.”
