New Zealand has reported an increase in new COVID infections with 44 cases detected in the past 24 hours.

The number of cases is up from 29 the previous day.

41 cases were detected in Auckland and 3 in Waikato – south of Auckland.

12 cases remain unlinked, while 20 are household contacts.

Authorities say they are not concerned about the fluctuating infection rate.
