“Australia has cleared a very important hurdle  in our fight against COVID-19,” he said at a press conference.
“Saving lives and saving livelihoods and now Australians are beginning to get their lives back. The things that had been taken from them because of this awful pandemic.
“The ability of Australians to come together, Australians to spend time with one another, to do business … to go to weddings, to go to funerals. All of these times so precious and these tomes now being resorted because of the vaccination rates hitting the levels that we’ve needed them to.”
It comes after Australia reached a major vaccination milestone on Wednesday – with 80 per cent of the eligible population having received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Across the country, 57.4 per cent of the over 16 population have had both doses of the vaccine and 43.7 per cent of 12 to 15-year-olds are fully jabbed.
More to come.
