Herald Sun journalist Caleb Bond says the education system “as a whole has been broken for a long time” and needs to be completely overhauled in order to attract more teachers.

The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting public schools in New South Wales are likely to run out of teachers by 2026.

Mr Bond said while more and more money has been thrown at the system it has failed to lead to better results.

He argued a rethink of the system could see the money reinvested in teacher pay “to attract qualified, good people to the profession”.

“If they can go there and make a good living, people will go and become teachers.”
