The Australian’s Editor-at-Large Paul Kelly says the reopening of New South Wales is “fundamental” to Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s election strategy.
It comes as Premier Dominic Perrottet has announced changes to the NSW roadmap within two days of him stepping up to his new role, adding some freedoms to the map earlier than expected.
“Scott Morrison, not surprising, committed completely to what the Premier was doing, and this is the essence of Scott Morrison’s re-election strategy, of course,” Mr Kelly told Sky News host Peta Credlin.
“He backed the reopening of New South Wales, as far as Morrison’s concerned New South Wales opening up must succeed, it’s fundamental to his own election strategy.
“But, of course, have no doubt what’s going to happen here is the Premier’s sceptical about this, the progressive politician’s, the media, the health experts that don’t like this, will wait and watch.
“There’s a lot at stake here.”
