Shadow Minister for Women Tanya Plibersek says there is a “looming shortage” in Australia’s teaching workforce.
Ms Plibersek said this is already seen in many schools across the country, particularly in regional communities – with vacancies “going unfilled for months or even years at a time”.
“And we know also that there are particular subjects in high school, for example, where we have really dramatic shortages of teachers,” she told Sky News Australia.
“We absolutely have to raise the status of the teaching profession once again.
“This is such important work, it is life-changing work.”
