University of Melbourne Deputy Vice-Chancellor International Professor Michael Wesley says it would be “extraordinary” if Prime Minister Scott Morrison did not attend the climate summit in Glasgow.

“This is a major international meeting, the issue of climate change is becoming increasingly pressing, it’s making its way to the very top of global priorities at the moment,” he told Sky News Australia.

Professor Wesley said Mr Morrison was “desperately trying to find a way” to get the Liberal National Party to agree to net-zero by 2050 before next month.

“For Australia’s prime minister not to be there to be talking to other world leaders would be extraordinary,” he said.
