Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce has lashed the Palaszczuk government’s “incompetence” as the state’s hospital system comes under pressure.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has called on the federal government to boost funding for the state’s health system over fears the hospitals may not cope if there was a surge in COVID-19 cases.

“They (the Queensland government) are somehow saying that their incompetence deserves rewarding,” Mr Joyce told Sky News host Rita Panahi.

“If you can’t run your hospitals, here’s a solution: get the hell out, go, disappear, you’re not a government, you’re a joke.”
