Mr Andrews has warned coronavirus will “run rapidly through the unvaccinated” as the state prepares to reopen once 70 per cent of the state are double dosed with a COVID-19 vaccine.
“Nothing is more important than getting vaccinated against this virus,” he said.
“As I have said, as all I think know and clearly understand, vaccination is how we will curtail the growth in these numbers, vaccination is how we will open up and be free and vaccination is how we will keep people safe.”
He stressed residents to come forward for a vaccine with more than 2,000 Pfizer appointments, 7,000 AstraZeneca and 27,000 Moderna jabs.
Mr Andrews announced Latrobe local government area will emerge from lockdown on Tuesday at 11:59pm after they were plunged into a snap seven-day lockdown.
Victoria recorded Australia’s highest daily figure with 1,763 new local COVID-19 cases and four deaths in the 24 hours to midnight, the Department of Health announced on Tuesday.
Mr Andrews passed on his deepest sympathies and condolences to the family and friends of a man in his 80s from Whittlesea, a woman in her 70s from Hume, a man in his 60s from Whitehorse, and a woman in her 60s from Banyule.
There are currently 571 Victorians in hospital with 101 of those in intensive care and 66 of those are on a ventilator.
Of those hospitalised 66 per cent were unvaccinated, 28 per cent had received one dose and just six per cent were fully vaccinated.
The results came from 62,189 tests and takes the number of active cases in the state to 14,368.
New South Wales previously held the unwanted record with 1,599 infections. Victoria’s daily record was 1,488 cases on Saturday.
The construction industry will reopen from today after it was shut down for two weeks due to ongoing coronavirus transmission.
Transport Infrastructure Minister Jacinta Allen revealed construction sites will need to adhere to a raft of new measures to ensure the construction sector can operate safely and remain open.
