The downward trend in COVID-19 cases has continued in New South Wales after the state recorded 608 locally acquired cases in the past 24 hours.

However, the latest numbers come as seven people died overnight: one in their 50s, two in their 60s, three in their 70s and one in their 80s.

Of the active cases in the state, 978 are currently in hospital with 190 people in ICU, 94 of whom require ventilation.

Meanwhile, 88.5 per cent of NSW’s eligible population have received first jab and 67.5 per cent are fully vaccinated.
