The northern side of the volcanic crater on the Spanish island of La Palma has collapsed, creating a new lava flow which is gaining momentum and threatening nearby villages.

The molten lava appears to be following a similar trajectory to previous flows.

About six thousand people have been evacuated and around one thousand homes destroyed as a result of the eruption.
