Incoming NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet has stated clearly that his policy mindset is to not go back into lockdown.
Mr Perrottet was asked at a media conference on Tuesday if lockdowns would become a thing of the past come next Monday when the state begins to open up.
“I don’t want to go back into lockdown,” Mr Perrottet said.
“Now, we’re committed to the national roadmap, and that is clearly set out in the Doherty report that, from time to time, there may be the need for targeted restrictions.
“But ultimately, we’ve got to learn to live alongside this virus, and vaccination has been the key to doing it – that ensures we don’t go backwards.
“This virus is not going away. It will be with us. It’s part of life.
“And the way that we can protect the healthcare of our people is through vaccination, and I’m proud to be part of – to be leading a state – where its people have come out in droves and been vaccinated and ensured that we were able to open up as quickly as possible.
“We aren’t opening up on Monday because of the government. We’re opening up on Monday because of our people and the sacrifices and effort they have made.”
