The Australian Government has increased supplies of Sotrovimab – a promising COVID-19 treatment that reduces the rate of hospitalisations and death.
Sky News Australia discussed the treatment supply with Health Minister Greg Hunt – who said the government had learnt from the past and made sure to have ordered enough.
“It’s a monoclonal antibody – it basically helps the body’s immune system fight back against COVID,” Mr Hunt said.
“It reduces the rate of hospitalisation and death on the clinical trials to date by approximately 50 per cent – so it doesn’t eliminate it.
“It’s absolutely essential that we’re vaccinated – but it works with vaccination to save and protect lives.”
