The US says China’s unfair trade practices have put them at a disadvantage and says the government will use “all tools necessary” to level the playing field.

The Biden Administration has signalled it won’t be removing the Trump administration’s trade tariffs against China.

It’s the strongest indicator yet that the United States’ combative economic approach toward Beijing will continue.

White House Officials revealed they intend to require China to uphold commitments agreed to as part of the Phase 1 trade deal signed in January of last year.

The US trade representative said China has not been doing what it should have been – they weren’t sharing the details of how much they should have been spending – but they said it’s below what they promised.

According to research, China is on pace to fall short of its 2021 purchasing commitments by more than 30 percent – after falling short by more than 40 percent last year.

As a consequence US Trade representative Ambassador Katherine Tai hinted there could be further tariffs down the road.

Trade representatives from both countries are due to begin talks in the coming days.
