US President Joe Biden has laughed off a disturbing incident where Democratic Senator Kyrsten Sinema was harassed while going to the bathroom by far-left activists, claiming the incident is “part of the process” of political discourse in America.
Senator Sinema, a prominent moderate, was confronted by a group of liberal activists while trying to go to the bathroom at Arizona State University, where she teaches, over the weekend.
She was chased into the bathroom stall by activists who wanted to know why she did not support President Biden’s $3.5 trillion ‘Build Back Better’ Act.
Speaking with reporters on Monday, President Biden said being accosted by protesters is “part of the process.”
“I don’t think they’re appropriate tactics, but it happens to everybody. The only people it doesn’t happen to are people who have Secret Service standing around them. So it’s part of the process,” President Biden said.
Many right-leaning commentators criticised the President’s response, warning that Senator Sinema’s safety could possibly be at risk.
Senator Sinema has incurred the wrath of activists after being one of the few Democrats to be opposed to President Biden’s $3.5 trillion ‘human infrastructure’ package.
