Labor MP Joel Fitzgibbon says Australia needs to get rid of the “crazy prohibition” on nuclear power so investors can determine whether it will be economical.

This comes after a recent Newspoll revealed only 27 per cent of Australians are completely opposed to a domestic nuclear power industry.

“We need to get rid of this crazy prohibition, so an investor can test the market and test community and government sentiment,” he told Sky News host Peta Credlin.

“And if they can jump all the usual hurdles any other industrial development must jump, then why not have it here in Australia?”
