The results came from 67,789 tests and takes the number of active cases in the state to 12,711.
More information on the cases and deaths will be provided at Monday’s daily press conference.
It is an increase from Sunday’s figures of 1,220 with the pandemic daily record reported on Saturday with 1,488 infections.
Premier Daniel Andrews said the state was likely to hit the 70 per cent fully vaccinated milestone on or before October 26, at which point a large numbers of restrictions would be lifted.
“We are so close. We are so, so close, we can see to the other side of this now,” he said on Sunday’s COVID-19 press conference.
“What will be freedom for the rest of us on or about 26 October? that is the lockdown will be off and we will march towards 80 per cent and we will have everything open, that will be for many, in many respects, the best time for our state.
“But it will be the hardest and most challenging time for our health system, the hardest and most challenging time for our nurses, ambos, doctors, the whole team.”
Victoria’s COVID commander Jeroen Weimar said the hospital numbers were “pretty stark” with 70 per cent of the cases recorded in the past 24 hours under the age of 40.
“We are talking about young people and largely unvaccinated young people,” he said.

The state’s capital officially endured 246 days of restricted movement over six lockdowns since March 30, 2020 on Sunday at 8pm.

Lockdown 3: February 12 – 17, 2021 —5 days
Lockdown 4: May 27 – June 10, 2021 — 14 days

Lockdown 6: August 5 – October 26, 2021 — 82 days
Dublin, Ireland was at second place with 227 days and London, UK, at 201 days.
