Infectious diseases physician Professor Peter Collignon says a number of factors including restrictions, rising vaccination rates and improving weather conditions going into summer will help drive down COVID cases.

Professor Collignon told Sky News host Chris Kenny as the weather improves and people are outside more there will be less transmission of the virus.

“That’s why I think you get a lot more infections in winter compared to summer and why the peak of any virus, be it influenza, or I suspect COVID in Australia – look at last year and this year – is in August, September and then into early October,” he said.

“So we’ve got a few things going for us that will improve.”
