The Australian’s media writer Sophie Elsworth says the media discussion of Treasurer Dominic Perrottet’s Catholicism is “totally inappropriate”.
“It’s extraordinary the way he’s been labelled in the media only a few days after Gladys Berejiklian stood down,” Ms Elsworth told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
“I think it’s an insult to his religion, he’s being targeted with this Catholic brush like it’s a bad thing.
“And the fact he’s got six children gets wheeled out, and that he’s a hard-right conservative – like he’s the devil.
“It’s doing the media a real disservice to describe him like this.”
