Outgoing NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro says resigning is something which has been “in the back of my mind for a long time”.
Mr Barilaro announced his exit from parliament on Monday after serving as leader of the NSW Nationals and deputy premier for five years.
“It’s the right time,” Mr Barilaro told Sky News host Peta Credlin.
“It probably was going to be in a few months’ time, but opportunities have arisen and I don’t want to cause too much pain for Dom.
“He (Dominic Perrottet) needs to do a reshuffle, do it once, and get on the campaign trail for 2023.”
