A dozen crew members from a ship which docked in Fremantle have tested positive to COVID-19.

There have been three crew members of the Stolt Sakura transferred to hospital and two patients are being treated in intensive care with one in a serious condition.

Western Australian Premier Mark McGowan said he expected the rest of the crew members to remain on the ship in isolation unless medical attention is required.

The cluster comes as an Australian diplomat also tested positive for the virus after being directed to self-quarantine with his family.
