Victoria has recorded a new high of 847 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 overnight, bringing the total of active cases in the state to 7,611.

Although yesterday’s numbers yet again confirmed the state’s coronavirus outbreak as a pandemic of the “young and unvaccinated”, health authorities are concerned with the rise of infection amongst residents 50 years and over.

Meanwhile, Victoria’s worsening Delta outbreak is beginning to take its toll on the state’s health system with 321 cases currently in hospital, 65 of which are in ICU and 45 requiring a ventilator.

It comes as the state recorded one death on Friday.
