White House press secretary Jen Psaki has shifted responsibility off the Biden administration over the escalating border crisis – claiming they inherited a “broken” system from Donald Trump which was “inhumane, immoral and ineffective”.
The border crisis has escalated in Del Rio after more than 14,000 mostly Haitian immigrants flocked to the Mexico-Texas border seeking a new life.
The Biden administration has been criticised for the way it handled the crisis, especially after images emerged showing border patrol agents allegedly whipped migrants.
A reporter asked the White House press secretary what Joe Biden thought of the comparisons between him and Donald Trump’s strict border policies.
“We could not see it as any more different from the policy of the prior administration,” Jen Psaki said.
“Which the president feels – we all feel – was inhumane, immoral, ineffective, wasn’t operationally working and because of the dysfunction of it we’ve led to a very broken system that we are dealing with today.”
Texas senator Ted Cruz visited the southern border over the weekend and slammed the Biden administration for pretending this isn’t a problem.
“I’ve got to tell you every Democrat I met with was so horrified by what’s happening at the border they said to me over and over again if the Democratic party is the party of open borders count me out,” he told Fox News.
“It is an unfolding disaster and yet todays’ Washington Democrat there’s not a single one of them who cares.
“Joe Biden won’t go down to the border, Kamala Harris won’t go down to the border or the Rio Grande Valley or go to Del Rio.
“They insist these problems aren’t happening.”
