Herald Sun journalist Caleb Bond says the increasing strain on health systems around the country as a result of the pandemic was “entirely predictable” and “we should have been prepared”.

The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting tens of thousands of retired health professionals have been called on to strengthen the pandemic frontline in response to surging hospitalisations.

“We’ve had more than 18 months really now to get our act together,” he said.

“And seemingly we didn’t do it because we were so fixated on this zero COVID business.”
