Betty’s Burgers Managing Director Troy McDonagh says the restaurant building endured extensive damage by the magnitude 5.9 earthquake which shook Melbourne on Wednesday.

“When we got here yesterday and arrived on-site … I sort of equated it to a warzone, lots of debris,” Mr McDonagh told Sky News Australia.

“The engineers have been in overnight and hopefully today we’ll start to get a bit of an idea about the extent of the damage and timeframes about when we can likely reopen.

“There’s fairly extensive damage to the building itself.”

He said early indications suggest the shop could reopen in a number of months.

He also said fortunately no team members were inside at the time the earthquake struck.
