Sky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood says coal-fired power in New South Wales will be a thing of the past by 2040.

“But in New South Wales, it says it’s going to exit coal power altogether by 2040,” Mr Greenwood told Sky News Australia.

“Now the important part about this is the age of the fleet of coal-fired power stations.

“The Mount Piper coal fired power station, it’s the youngest of the fleet in NSW coal fired power stations, owned by Energy Australia, is set to close by 2043.

“Now today Energy Australia is saying it’s going to bring that forward as part of its commitment to get out of coal-fired power by 2040 and it will close by at least by 2040, if not sooner.”
