PremierNational consultant Darrin Barnett says religious discrimination is an area of public policy where you can’t draft a set of laws “that makes everybody happy”.

It comes as a poll has revealed two-thirds of Australians support legal protections for religious institutions and protections for workers making statements of faith outside office hours.

“I kind of take the view that, why would you want to go and work somewhere where people fundamentally disagree with you, your lifestyle, your family and everything else?

“In my view it’s one for the individual,” Mr Barnett told Sky News host Paul Murray.

“But the government does need to address it, they said they would.”
