Sky News host Andrew Bolt says China has been “so threatening” that the Morrison government is “suddenly scrambling” to prepare Australia.
It comes as Australia has scrapped the $90 billion French submarine deal in favour of a fleet of nuclear-powered submarines to be acquired under the AUKUS alliance.
However, it is expected it will take at least a decade for the submarines to hit the water.
“Sure enough, today Prime Minister Scott Morrison all but confirmed that one of the things he’s now discussing in Washington with President Biden and with the British Prime Minister is to lease submarines from them in the meantime,” Mr Bolt said.
“Or, or and, having their navy station, their own submarines here in Australia.
“This is extraordinary, and it should tell you how frightened the government is of war, soon.”
