Prime Minister Scott Morrison says the federal government will provide the support that is necessary after Melbourne was rocked by an earthquake on Wednesday morning.

The 6.0-magnitude earthquake has caused damage across parts of the city.

Speaking from Washington, Prime Minister Morrison said, “the federal government stands by, through Emergency Management Australia, to provide whatever assistance is needed”.

“Whether from the ADF or others.”

“It can be a very, very disturbing event for an earthquake of this nature, they are very rare events in Australia and as a result I’m sure people would have been quite distressed and quite disturbed by that.”
