Sky News host Chris Smith says China has “changed dramatically” in the past five years and is not the country it was when Paul Keating was prime minister of Australia.
This comes after the former prime minister slammed the AUKUS alliance, which will see Australia acquire nuclear-powered submarines amid the growing threat posed by China in the Indo-Pacific region.
“It’s not the China that we started to do world trade deals with back in the late 90s,” he said.
“They are threatening the world, they are threatening our region, and by association, we are under threat because the US will go in and support Taiwan.
“It’s got nothing to do with the way things were; it’s now a different ballgame.”
