AFL Chief Executive Officer Gillon McLachlan says there have been a lot of “high-wire acts” over the course of the year to make the AFL season happen.
Only four rounds of the AFL and AFLW have been unaffected by COVID-19 this year, ultimately resulting in the grand final being held at Perth’s Optus Stadium instead of the traditional MCG.
“Things by inches, and minutes, and umpires being rerouted and turning up a minute before the game,” Mr McLachlan told Sky News Australia.
“It seems to have been how it’s been – a bit of luck, and I think a fair bit of good management for a lot of people.
“We’re on the cusp of getting it done.”
