Sky News host Paul Murray says the AUKUS alliance is a “major step forward” for Australia’s defence capabilities and “unsurprisingly China’s blown a gasket”.

Mr Murray pointed out Anthony Albanese wrote an opinion piece earlier in the week where the opposition leader argued the alliance between Australia and the US should focus on climate change and not China.

“In the very same week, well you’ve heard the news today, that we have taken a major step forward in being able to defend our country with an even tighter relationship and the kit to prove it, with the United States and the UK,” he said.

“It’s an excellent decision.”
