University of Melbourne Professor Michael Wesley says he thinks the upcoming Quad leaders’ summit will be “pretty much solely about China”.
US President Joe Biden will host the Quad leaders’ summit at the White House on September 24.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison, along with India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese leader Yoshihide Suga, will attend the conference in person.
“I think this is a very significant move,” Professor Wesley told Sky News Australia.
“The Quad has never before met at the head of government, head of state level, and it is a significant escalation of the development of this organisation.
“You wouldn’t be bringing all of these leaders together without some sort of intent to make a forceful statement.”
