Victorian Chief Health Officer Professor Brett Sutton has praised the “fantastic achievement” of Victorians after the state administered one million vaccinations in the timeframe of five weeks.

“It’s just a fantastic achievement to get to the one million mark ahead of that five-week milestone,” Professor Sutton said.

“To have so many vaccines in arms in Victoria is an absolutely tremendous achievement.

“Every vaccine’s another brick in the defensive wall against coronavirus, and it’s another step on the way to those increased freedoms that we’re all looking for.”

He said there has been an “outstanding” vaccination uptake in key areas in the state, such as the city of Melbourne, which has seen a 38 per cent increase in a fortnight.
