Ballarat is set to face the same tough restrictions as Melbourne after it was announced on Wednesday in a media conference, the regional city would be thrown into a seven-day snap lockdown from 11:59 pm.

They will only be five permitted reasons for residents to leave their home and the 5km travel distance will apply but the curfew, however, will not be in place.

It comes after a surge in cases, multiple exposure sites, and positive wastewater detection for COVID in the area.

Premier Daniel Andrews remained strong, saying he is taking no chances to contain the cluster.
