New South Wales Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant says four more people have died from COVID-19 overnight as the state records its highest number of new infections.

Dr Chant said a man in his 50s died in Dubbo Hospital and a man in his 70s died in Westmead Hospital and both men had underlying health conditions.

She said a man in his 70s who had acquired his infection at the Meredith House aged care facility has become first person connected to the outbreak to die from the virus.

Dr Chant said a woman in her 60s who died in Westmead Hospital became infected at Cumberland Hospital.
