Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese have paid their respects following the death of Labor Senator Alex Gallacher.

News broke on Monday afternoon of the passing of the South Australian Labor Senator.

In Parliament on Monday, Mr Morrison said he was “deeply saddened by the news”.

Mr Albanese described Mr Gallacher as a “dedicated member of the Labor Party”.

“We express our condolences to his family, to his friends, may he rest the peace,” Mr Albanese said.

The South Australian Senator was 67 years of age.
