Psychiatrist Tanveer Ahmed says the impression is it’s “really hitting breaking point” in Victoria, given the mental health statistics.

In the six weeks to the end of May, more than 340 teenagers were admitted to hospital in the state of Victoria every week following mental health emergencies.

Dr Ahmed told Sky News host Peta Credlin children and teenagers are “canaries in the mine” amid the pandemic and ongoing lockdowns.

“They’re barometers of broader strain upon families,” he said.
