Prime Minister Scott Morrison says he is hopeful the “epidemiological curve” of cases in Victoria will bend in the coming weeks as the death toll hits 1,000 people.

“If you look at the epidemiological curve for Victoria … and to compare it to what’s happening in New South Wales, you’ll see a very similar profile,” he said.

“We hope with the measures that the Victorian government have taken that the curve will indeed bend in the weeks ahead.”

Mr Morrison said the Delta variant has “completely changed the way” the government seeks to manage the pandemic and the deaths which have occurred due to the virus.

“This pandemic has reaped a heavy toll, imposed a heavy toll on the entire world and our efforts are focussing on combatting it as best as we possibly can,” he said.
