Sky News guest host Daisy Cousens says it’s “extraordinary” US President Joe Biden declared a national Women’s Equality Day when his administration’s “incompetence” has condemned Afghani women to lives of “perpetual inequality” under the Taliban.
This comes after suicide bombers in Kabul killed 13 US soldiers and potentially hundreds of civilians on Thursday, in the deadliest day for US troops in Afghanistan since 2011.
“This tragedy is the latest in the decrepit, thoroughly unamusing clown show that is Joe Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan,” Ms Cousens said.
“But did he react swiftly, with grace and reassurance in the wake of this attack? Nope, not a press conference nor even a conciliatory tweet about it for nearly half a day.
“He did, however, find the time to release an official statement declaring August 26 national Women’s Equality Day to celebrate the 101-year anniversary of women’s voting rights in the USA.
“It’s quite extraordinary he considers himself in any way qualified to utter the words “women’s equality”, when, thanks to the ham-fisted incompetence of his administration, he has condemned the women of Afghanistan to lives of perpetual inequality at the hands of the Taliban.”
