Japan’s Ambassador to Australia, Shingo Yamagami says Australia is “not working alone” when facing difficulties in the relationship with China.

Mr Yamagami said around 10 years ago, Japan experienced a “similar incident” relating to imports of rare earth minerals from China which were “severely restricted”.

“So, Australia is not working alone in its hardship,” Mr Yamagami told Sky News host Chris Smith.

“Trade should never be used as a tool to apply political pressure.”
