Sydney’s Parklea Correctional Centre has been placed into strict lockdown after at least 12 inmates tested positive to COVID-19.

An internal memo to staff, obtained by the Sunday Herald, reveals 12 cases were detected in one section of the prison.

Staff are expected to be briefed on the situation on Sunday morning and anyone who is concerned about exposure has been urged to get tested.

A spokeswoman for the privately run facility in Sydney’s north-west says the source of the infections is under investigation.
