US President Biden in an address said he vowed to hunt down those who committed the attack at Kabul airport which left at least 72 dead, including 12 American troops.
President Biden said the US would not withdraw troops from Afghanistan before the deadline of August 31 and there would not be any additional troops sent to Kabul.
There are at least 1,000 US citizens at the airport in Kabul and many others who worked with the American government over the course of the war.
The US is forced to negotiate with the Taliban on the matter of extracting citizens but President Biden said he expected the Taliban to act in their own interests.
“We’re just counting on their self-interest to continue to generate their activities, it’s in their self-interest that we leave when we said,” President Biden said.
