Updated modelling by the Doherty Institute has found reopening Australia with thousands of COVID-19 cases will not lead to more deaths.

The institute conducted analysis of three scenarios over a 180-day period testing case numbers in their tens, hundreds, and thousands.

The research found there was no material difference between expected fatality rates no matter how many cases there were when restrictions were lifted.

The findings will be discussed at today’s National Cabinet.
